Introducing Prompt Like a Pro: My Free Weekly Series on AI Tools for Authors

You asked for something deeper than a blog post, more practical than an overview, and more honest than most of what is out there about AI and writing. So I built it.

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you know that AI tools for writers have been one of my most-covered topics over the past year. From the introductory overview of how AI can help authors to the living companion resource for From Dream to Draft, I have been watching this space closely and sharing what I learn as I go.

But a blog post can only go so deep. And what I was hearing from writers in the comments, in my inbox, and in conversations through the Writers’ Connection community was that they did not just want an overview. They wanted a real, practical, week-by-week guide. Something that met them where they were, whether they had never opened an AI tool in their life or had been experimenting for months and wanted to use it better.

So I built one. And I want to make sure every writer in this community knows it exists.

What is Prompt Like a Pro?

Prompt Like a Pro is a free weekly series I publish every Monday on my Mind & Manuscript Substack page. Each post covers one specific aspect of using AI as a writing tool, from beating writer’s block with a single prompt to building a character your reader will never forget, to writing a synopsis that actually does its job. It is practical, honest, and written specifically for authors at every level who want to use these tools without losing their voice in the process.

Twenty-three posts are already published and waiting for you. Here is a taste of what is in there:

Your First Prompt: Getting Unstuck in Under Five Minutes. The anatomy of a great writing prompt and why vague questions get vague answers. How to build a Character Guide that tells you everything you need to know about the people in your story. Prompts for writing dialogue that sounds like your characters and nobody else. How to write a location you have never visited and make it feel completely real. The difference between tension and drama, and how to make sure every scene has at least one. How to do a structural revision without losing your mind.

And that is just through Week 23. Twenty-nine more weeks are coming, covering everything from subplots and first chapters to query letters, handling feedback, self-publishing, and the writing life itself.

Why I made it free

I launched this series behind a paywall eight weeks ago. Good content, real value, and I stand behind every word of it. But a paywall is a door. And the writers who need this series most are often the ones who have not yet had the chance to read it, trust it, and decide it is worth their time.

So I opened the door. Everything is free now. Every post already published, every post coming for the rest of the year. No subscription required. Just come in and read.

My goal is simple: to reach as many writers as possible with practical, experience-based guidance on using AI as a creative tool. Not a replacement for your voice. A collaborator that helps more stories get finished, and more books get written.

How to start reading

Head over to my Substack Prompt Like a Pro Series. If you are brand new to AI tools, start with Week 1. If you are already using them and want to go deeper, jump to whichever topic is most relevant to where you are in your writing right now. Every post stands on its own.

And if you subscribe, which is free and takes about ten seconds, a new post will arrive in your inbox every Monday morning. Something useful, something practical, something that might just be the thing that gets you back to the page this week.

Because that is what this is really about. Not the tools or the technology. But the story you have been trying to write. The one that deserves to be finished.

Keep writing! The world needs your story.
