Teresa Pérez

Untitled Manuscript

Teresa Pérez is the child of Cuban immigrants. Growing up in Toledo, Ohio in the ‘70s in this environment was rather unusual but being the 6th and youngest child, home alone until she also started school, resulted in a perfect storm for a wild imagination. She was always interested in other cultures, given that her family was considered ‘another culture’, and travel was always in the back of her mind.

Her first experience abroad was in her teens when she traveled to Canada on numerous occasions; after that, the spark was ignited and there was no turning back. After finishing university, she first moved across country to Colorado and then abroad. She has lived in Europe and has since visited numerous other countries; she fervently hopes to continue doing so well into the future.

This love of travel and experiencing other cultures was the inspiration for Joaquín’s adventures. Her sincere hope is to ignite that spark in children and open their hearts and imaginations to what travel and adventure have in store for them.

She currently lives in Argentina with her husband and two dogs.

I supposed that I should dispense with hyperbole and simply say that I’m something of a curmudgeonous lout who nonetheless enjoys the friendship of like-minded, creative people who, misguided as they may seem to the NRA, envision humanity as a benign, loving community that, despite all indicators, is evolving towards a kind of positive enlightenment.

I like reading more than I like writing, but, despite this, I’ve written nine volumes to date in various genre and under different pen names. Please do not ask me about titles or pen names as some of my books are quite controversial and I prefer hiding behind the pen name subterfuge. In my own defense, I’m medically allergic to litigation and especially sensitive to death threats.

My latest book – sure to attract death threats, or, at very least, a mountain of frivolous litigation – is entitled “Killing Tony, Excerpts from My Diary”, based on a true story that explores the dark underbelly of the community too many of us still rely on for remediation when things go wrong.

My interests are wide ranging, with literature – Spanish, French and English – being only one of them. Life is short. I like to travel. I’m something of an amateur anthropologist. I enjoy traveling on my own terms and have traveled the world in my own vehicle, free from wild-eyed terrorist rant, cranky flight attendants, and dicey flight schedules, while enjoying the co-privileges of sleeping in my own bed every night, eating my own food, and enjoying standards of sanitation to which I’ve become accustomed over a lifetime, no matter where I travel. As privileged as all of this may sound, it has been a spartan lifestyle that has, at least, afforded some protection from dengue fever, malaria and the myriad of other insect-borne diseases from which I’ve been left unprotected since birth.

These days, I’ve grown curious of what others would think of those characters and stories.

I had no choice, no say in the matter. These conversations weren’t my own, and the chatter wouldn’t subside until their tales had been told.

I’m all over the place, I write a little of everything, and I love it all with a passion.

“The Stain”

Three women divided through time and space explore the same events. Each remains trapped as though compelled to continue the same actions, until one frees them all.

People, maybe twenty, some shuffling slowly around the perimeter, any number of them moaning or shouting suddenly, populated this dark den. Three small high windows on the opposite side opened directly to the elements. Years of snow and rain had flooded portions of the room and now moss grew beneath those far windows as though to remind those on this side of the green growing life outside. Yet no eye might take comfort by looking at trees or grass because the opening was too high.

I’m a Native Texan, born and raised close to the heart of the great Lone Star state. I was born in January of 89′ and got to grow up during a great time, I honestly don’t consider myself a Millennial, and really hate that title. Also I’m a part-time working secretary and a full-time mother/housewife, as well as a Lupus Warrior.
Having Lupus, means a life of inside living, and the sun is known as my arch-nemesis, my personal kryptonite. I wanted to leave a legacy behind, sometime my kids could one day look back on and say, yeah my mom did that.

Thanks to the encouragement of friends and family, I found a passion in writing paranormal romance books. Anything fantasy usually suits my novels and me tend to be able to reach anyone in multiple genres. Most of my story ideas come to me in the most unexpected time and places, such as my dreams. They will plague me non-stop until I get my rear up and write it out.
I like to explore to new types of characters such as Sandmen and Boogeymen for example. I really wanted to give them their own world, such as A Sandman’s Forbidden Love.
God has granted me success that I never imagine was possible., which lead me to my obsession with the paranormal. Now, I know shifter aren’t real but Angels are another story. So Angels are also a part of my obsession, I will sit on the computer doing extensive research on both Sandmen and Angels trying to get my facts straight.

Then, on the side, I create Art Journals that can be cross generational from thirteen to sixty years younger, My goal with these types of books are to reach people who need that extra feel good in their lives.

Sara Frances

“Fragments of Spirit: 60 Years: A Photographer’s Recollections of Taos Pueblo, the Region and its Arts”

Transcending a photographic fine art monograph, Fragments of Spirit is a memoir and evolving philosophy of photographic process and style from a much-awarded Master Photographic Craftsman. Written in a distinctive, first person commentary, as eclectic as the photojournalistic images that span six decades. Included are six forewords, contributed by Western art luminaries: the late Hal Gould, Peter Hassrick and John Anderson, plus Antonia Lujan, Pam Phillips, Stanley Cuba, Bob Coates, and Donald Ruggles. A captivating journey into art, land, and culture of the West that matters.

Talking Story
Pictures usually do my talking;
they seem intrinsically full of sounds and music, smells and taste and touch. Functioning as diary, definition and persona. Photographs are my repository of thought and perception to be read and reread. An archive certainly, but to have value, diary elements must be organized and prepared for viewing. Selection, sequence and emotion are everything; the tangible event and the sentient response must work together to make the whole. A new fact is created, consolidated, solidified and distilled to make clear the artist’s vision path. Here lies the second job of the artist that cannot be grasped in the immediacy and distractions of the actual time and space of photographic capture. I take all the bits and rewrite them into illustrated letters to myself. The photographs themselves tell most of the story, but words are sometimes essential—but only if I also recognize where they are unneeded, and allow an image to stand alone. The first job element is instinctual work of the instant, the second is the harder job—harder and rooted in contemplative analysis. Both are works of pleasure, works that bring pleasure. Memory must pop clear of the white noise of daily existence.

A Dusting of Memory
The métier of diarist-photographer
settled on me by happenstance, and now seems a completely logical, hybrid profession. It’s a half-planned, half-serendipitous adventure of usually arriving at the right place and the right time to capture significant action. It’s a mystery. My ear hears stories from inanimate objects. My eyes that cannot focus at all without glasses see other layers. My family environment was constructed, actually sculpted, on the different strata that are music and art. Mostly, however, my pivot is this curious ability I have to spontaneously read and connect with people. For some reason people tell me deep things after the most minimal acquaintance. Sometimes, people tell me nothing at all in words; nevertheless, they communicate eloquently, feeling totally at ease, confident of actions or gestures, to reveal themselves, in, or perhaps ignoring, my presence and my camera.

Nature, or even a place or time, can also express itself
to me as a vitality. Perhaps it’s more conventionally described as an essence, a spirit or simply a vibration—though I find these words a bit pretentious. I work hard, wanting to receive those vibrations because I cannot make a great picture all by myself. Like one of my photo heroes, Carl Mydans, I search for subjects that make my hands tremble. I attribute this visceral thrill to sensing an underground river of time and human heritage, revealed by personal affinity with the subject and an urgent desire to seize a moment for one’s diary which will never be the same later.

After considering fighter pilot, diplomatic service, and archaeologist, Sara Frances settled on photography because it created a bridge to know people, discover cultures, and discuss politics and sociology. She is a Master photographer, grad of Lighthouse Poetry Collective, and board member or volunteer or judge for a number of publishing, writing, and image making organizations.

Hello to You, wherever you are in the world!
Writing has always been a way for me to express what goes on inside. I don’t believe much in the perfection of the script. For me, it has always been about the idea that is conveyed. I believe art is without perfection. But also the truest form of the self. That is the message I want to put forward with all my books. Now that I am in this field, I want to explore all my limits and every corner of my heart with my books. So every time you pick up a book of mine, you are getting an insight of my brain. I cannot wait to share all these little pieces of me with all of you. I hope you find it easy to connect with my words. My only desire is to create something that resonates with you. Writing is my passion and here I am liberated!

“Camille”

It is the autumn of 1993. Three young witches enroll at Epshire University. The powerful Rapathia. The devious Josephine. And Camille, who is probably a liar and possibly a homicidal lunatic.Within a year, the campus goes quite mad, becoming home to not one, but four ax-wielding serial killers. At least. And so Camille and her friends must reckon with this capricious and violent evil. Grapple with their own growing powers. And learn the meaning of the whispers that sing to them from the uncharted woods that wait just beyond the edge of City Park.Camille is both a coming-of-age story and a dark supernatural thriller, a tale of one young woman’s journey from the unstable light of evening into the blackest corners of night.Camille is not a sequel to the 2016 award-winning novella Sever, but its dark mirror. While Sever told Epshire’s story from a masculine, secular point of view, Camille tells it from a feminine, supernatural one. The two books can be read in any order.

“Roadmap to Growing Leafy Greens & Herbs”

“This book covers a lot of the traditional recommendations seen in hydroponic textbooks, but I’ve also included my personal experiences that have widened my perspective on the ways to grow hydroponic leafy greens.

This book does not focus on the flashy stats. Instead it focuses on the challenges. I’ve seen investors get sold on the flashy stats without a full understanding of the challenges of creating and managing a profitable leafy greens farm. I’m tired of seeing small farms fail due to avoidable mistakes.”

Tyler Baras has a range of urban agricultural experience from homesteading to commercial hydroponics. While completing his B.S. in Horticultural Sciences at the University of Florida, he traveled overseas to study Organic Agriculture in Spain and Protected Agriculture (greenhouse production) in China. After graduation, he worked as a grower for 3 Boys Farm Inc., one of the first certified organic hydroponic farms in the United States. In 2013, Tyler moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked as the hydroponic farm manager at The GrowHaus. He managed a profitable urban farm while creating a successful hydroponic internship program with a 90% job placement rate for graduates. While at The GrowHaus, Tyler started creating educational videos and blog posts about farm tech which are available on his website FarmerTyler.com. In 2015, Tyler moved to Dallas, Texas where he managed the Dallas Grown hydroponic greenhouse and worked as Special Projects Manager for Hort Americas, a commercial hydroponic equipment distributor. While in Dallas, Tyler wrote one of the best-selling hobby hydroponic books, DIY Hydroponic Gardens: How to Design and Build an Inexpensive System for Growing Plants in Water. In 2017, Tyler wrote Roadmap to Growing Leafy Greens and Herbs, an educational book for new growers and investors interested in commercial hydroponic production of leafy greens in greenhouses and indoor farms. In 2018, Tyler moved to San Francisco, California where he worked as the New Product Development Senior Grower at the indoor vertical farming company Plenty. “Hotel Criminal: Shackled By the System”

“This is the story about a work release jail program in ultra right wing conservative and religious Lewd county Colorado, where people who have nothing going on in their lives find a convenient, secure, and warm place to stay and socialize for fourteen dollars a day. For some it is better than paying rent and having to clean an apartment.

Cash Walden, a white collar professional, finds himself sucked into the system following a DUI checkpoint arrest, and among a colorful cast of characters including local thugs, gang members, and alcohol and drug addicts. The place is run like an adult day care center, routinely in-taking and discharging a constant flow of men in a cash cow government machine.

Broken and battered by his experience, Cash starts an anonomous website to share all of the information he can find in order to expose and create awareness of “”the System.”” What he discovers quickly evolves into a web of corruption and greed so massive and yet so hidden that he begins to fear for his life.”

“The clock on the night side table read 11:57pm and the lower back pain was feeling more crampy than like the contractions she was expecting. Alaina looked at the phone and decided to call him. With only three weeks to go until the baby arrived, she was a bit peeved that Cash had decided to go out tonight with friends, leaving her alone this late into the evening. He knew she was nervous and she had just asked him to make sure he was around every day until their daughter was born, just for peace of mind. The last thing she wanted was to go into labor alone.
The phone rang three times on the other end and then went to voice mail. She left a curt message letting him know that she wasn’t feeling well and that it would be good to get home as soon as he could. It was very late and she hadn’t expected him to be out so late. He called back five minutes later to apologize with the explanation that he had lost track of time and was on his way home. It was hard to stay angry with Cash.”

“Thomas, The Bully”

Thomas, The Bully is a story where Thomas, a big-sized six-year-old, is fond of bullying his classmate, Bode, a small-looking age mate of his. Bode reports Thomas to his teacher. Thomas is being punished for that but Bode is being counseled not to be intimated by bullies.

“Come here!”’ Thomas shouted. ‘’Else, I will beat you up’’
Bode ran towards where Thomas stood.
‘’What do you have with you?’’ Thomas asked, looking frightening.
‘’N…ohing’’, Bode answered. He was not only panting but also sweating and panicking.
‘’Did I hear you say ‘nothing’’
‘’Yes’’ Bode replied, though very faintly.
‘’Let me find out’’
Thomas began the search. He dipped his hands into the pocket areas of Bode’s school knickers, and then proceeded to his bag and front pocket of his shirt. Thomas found nothing.
‘’So, you didn’t come with anything’’
‘’My mother did not give me the biscuits’’. Bode replied. ‘’If she did, I would have given them to you’’
‘’That is none of my business!’’ Thomas said. He was angry at Bode’s reply.
‘’I will continue to bully you if you do not provide me my usual biscuits. You know this is not the first time I have been doing this to you.’’
‘’Yes’’
Thomas mildly pushed Bode. He saw himself fall to the ground.
‘’You know this is Break Time.’’
‘’Yes’’ Bode responded, looking scared.
‘’Now, before the count of three, run to the classroom! 1…2…’’
Before Thomas counted ‘3’, Bode suddenly took off from the ground and ran as fast as he could—away from his presence—to the classroom.
Thomas was a dark-skinned, plump-sized seven-year-old who was always fond of bullying Bode, his classmate. Bode was a six-year-old small-in-size and frail-looking boy who was always afraid of Thomas.
However, it got to the point Bode could not take it anymore. He was getting tired of Thomas’ bullying behavior. So, Bode reported Thomas to his class teacher, Miss Juliet.
Two days later, Miss Juliet instructed Thomas and Bode to sit in front of her, while she stood, minutes before the Break Time Period.
Miss Juliet pointed her finger at Thomas. ‘’It has come to my notice that you have been bullying Bode for a long time. Bode reported you to me two days ago. Now, this is the time to handle the matter’’. Her pointing finger went down. ‘’Is that true, Thomas?’’
Thomas looked guilty. ‘’Mmmm…Yes, Miss Juliet’’
‘’Why should you do that to Bode? Why have you been bullying him for so long?’’
‘’Mmmm…I did it because…. I did that because…of’’
Miss Julie was upset. She interrupted, ‘’Because of what?!’’
Thomas was scared. ‘’Because…’’
‘’So, you bully Bode for no reason, right? Thomas The Bully! You have now earned yourself the name…Thomas, The Bully! What has Bode done to deserve this from you, Thomas, The Bully?! Anyway, I will teach you a lesson you will never forget!’’
Thomas appeared unsettled. He looked upwards at the moving ceiling fan, sideways at the open louvers and downwards at the tiled classroom floor and wooden chairs. Bode was delighted as he was paying attention.
‘’Bode, why didn’t you report Thomas to me, long before now?’’ Asked Miss Juliet. She could not help but show her disappointment.
Bode was sober.

“Needle of the Southside”

Marty is an upperclass jerk living in the Northside of Chicago, who prides himself on being a self-made success story. While searching for a lost flash drive vital to his job, he meets Ana, a tomb raider who recovers magic artifacts and sells them to the highest bidder. She tells Marty that his deceased father hid a particularly powerful artifact somewhere in the rough and tumble Southside of Chicago where Marty grew up for the two of them to find.

Now, with hired goons chasing him, Marty must must decipher clues leading to its whereabouts, while dealing with everything from a Russian mobster to biker gangs to a secret society to his own mother, along with supernatural booby traps that defy human logic.

Marty also learns that the self-made success story he was so proud of was a lie; his father orchestrated Marty’s climb to the top, including both Ana’s involvement and the man who hired her to find Marty and retrieve the artifact. He must find it to restore his shattered personal life and career, get those goons off his back before he gets killed, and prove once and for all that he never needed his father’s help.

“The prevailing theory is that in October of 1869 there was a war in the Midwestern skies between at least two great inhuman creatures. This battle lasted three years. We’ve found many accounts of mysterious auroras appearing around that time, and what people thought were shooting stars appearing in the sky. According to some people who were more supernaturally inclined, they referred to this as the War Of The Sky, and it involved at least one giant, firebreathing lizard that scorched the sky with fire in a battle that raged far above the clouds.
“Our experts described it as an epic battle for rulership of the earth that left all but one of them vaporized. The lone survivor flew away into seclusion, resting and rebuilding its strength for the day it would rise to claim dominion over this world.”
Marty couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Oh really? And what proof do we have of this conflict?”
“The fact that you two are here asking to see my proof.” Marty squinted. That made absolutely no sense. Nathan ignored his expression and continued. “You see, this battle happened long before humans could fly via airplanes, so the battle only appeared as an aroura in the sky. But the conflict caused major disturbances in the weather. In November 1869 there was a massive thunderstorm that happened over the nearest of our Great Lakes. Unnaturally large gusts of wind flew down the Mackinaw straits, stirring up gale forces no sailor could handle. It stranded 97 ships and destroyed another 35, including two propellers, two barks, four brigs, 19 schooners, six scows and two barges.”
“Those are all types of boats?” Marty felt like a moron for asking.
Nathan grinned. “Yes, they are all types of boats. The accumulated weight of the destroyed ships was upwards of 16,000 tons.”
Nathan fidgeted even in his reclined position. He was really into this! “Over the course of the two-year battle, some of the flames from the beasts flew downwards. Since it was magical fire, it could not easily be put out, and it consumed everything where it landed.
“In 1871, the town of Peshtigo, Wisconsin was utterly destroyed by this fire, killing thousands. And at the same time, some of that fire hit a barn here in the south side, which sparked the greatest wildfire this city has ever seen. People described the fire as almost magically finding the perfect sources to keep itself burning, until it eventually consumed most of our City-State. It took years to repair all of the damage.”
Marty looked at Ana, who looked back at him with the same expression he knew he was wearing. She obviously was thinking the same thing he was thinking. He slowly turned back to the man and narrowed his eyes. “So you’re saying the great fire of 1871 was caused by….”
He looked them both in the eye, nodded and smugly smirked. “Dragons.”
